- 1). Connect a USB cord from the iPod 5G to a computer. Verify that you have an active Internet connection.
- 2). Download and install the latest version of iTunes. Open iTunes.
- 3). Select the name of the iPod in the Source panel. Information about the iPod appears in the iTunes summary tab. Do not click on the triangle.
- 4). Choose the restore option to remove all previous software and update to the latest software for the iPod 5G. This option removes all files. Choose the update option to replace the software without removing files or songs. The newest version of iPod classic software will be installed.
