    Uploading

    • 1). Install iTunes onto your computer for free at Apple's website. Plug your mp3 player into your computer with the USB cord. Your computer automatically recognizes mp3 players. Open up iTunes. Once you see the mp3 player icon on your desktop. An mp3 player icon will also be in iTunes' left-hand column directly below "Devices."

    • 2). Click either "Music," "Podcasts," "Movies" or "TV Shows" below the "Library" options in the left-hand column of iTunes. Whichever selection you click on will show you your library of correlating media in iTunes.

    • 3). Put media on your mp3 player from the iTunes Library by clicking a title, dragging it to the mp3 player icon from the left-hand column and unclicking the mouse once the icon is highlighted. The selected item will then copy to the mp3 player. This will take only a few seconds, but it depends on how big the item being copied is. Now when you click on the mp3 player icon in iTunes, the item you just copied will be in the mp3 player's playlist.

    • 4). To remove any media from the mp3 player, connect it to your computer again. Click on the title in the mp3 player's playlist in iTunes. Once the title is highlighted, hit delete. When you finish uploading or removing media, unplug your mp3 player from the computer by clicking the "Eject'" icon at the right of the mp3 player icon in iTunes. After a few seconds, the mp3 player can safely be disconnected from the computer.

    Playing

    • 1). Play media on an mp3 player once you've disconnected it from a computer. Make sure that the "Hold" switch is off. Since most mp3 players don't have built-in speakers, you need to use headphones or external speakers.

    • 2). Press the "Play" or "Select' button on the mp3 player to listen to a song. Navigate left to right, or up and down, to find the selection you wish to play. Press the play button again to pause.

    • 3). Most mp3 players have screens that show you what selection you're making, so always use this screen in association with the buttons you're pressing. But if your mp3 player does not have a screen (iPod Shuffle, for example), simply stay aware of all the device's buttons.
