How to Hook Up an iPod to a Home Stereo Receiver

    • 1). Purchase an audio cable that has a headphone connector on one end and an RCA connector on the other. This type of cable can be obtained at various sites online as well as retailers such as Best Buy or Radio Shack.

    • 2). Connect the end with the RCA connectors to the receiver first. Look at the back of the receiver to find either a CD, auxiliary or other audio input.

    • 3). Plug the end with the headphone connector into the Ipod. These is the only connections that need to be made to the receiver and the Ipod.

    • 4). Turn on the receiver and Ipod. Set the receiver to the proper input channel that is using the RCA connectors.

    • 5). Select a song to play on the Ipod. Adjust the main volume on the receiver. The volume on the Ipod will need to be increased or decreased to achieve the optimal level.

    • 6). Make all music selections using the Ipod. The receiver is only used to increase, decrease or mute the sound being heard.
