How to Make a Seed Garland Wreath
- 1). Mix one package of unflavored gelatin, 3/4-cup of flour, ½ cup of water and 3 tbsp. of corn syrup into a large mixing bowl. Stir all of the ingredients until everything is combined.
- 2). Mix in 4 cups of birdseed. Stir until the seeds are coated with the mixture.
- 3). Spray the shaped muffin tin with non-stick cooking spray. Muffin tins are available in a variety of shapes at craft, department, discount and specialty stores.
- 4). Spoon the birdseed mixture into each of the molds. Pack the seeds into the molds using the base of your measuring cup. The top of the seeds should be smooth.
- 5). Insert one toothpick through the top of each birdseed mold. Make sure that the wooden pick goes all the way through to the mold. Leave the birdseed mixture inside the molds for three hours. Remove the picks.
- 6). Remove the hardened, shaped birdseed ornaments from the molds and place them upside down on a sheet of waxed paper. Leave the ornaments to dry overnight.
- 7). Cut a 4 foot strand of 24-gauge craft wire. Tie a double overhand knot in one end of the thin wire. Insert the open end of the wire through one of the birdseed ornaments. Tie another double overhand knot in the wire to hold the ornament in place on the strand.
- 8). Tie another knot in the wire, 3 to 4 inches from the last knot, depending on the size of the seed ornament and on the desired spacing for your garland. Add another ornament. Secure it in place with another knot. Repeat this step to make birdseed garland from the birdseed ornaments.
- 9). Cover the front, outside and inside rim of a foam wreath frame with fresh-cut or silk greenery to fit the season. Arrange the greenery on the wreath and secure it in place with floral U hooks.
- 10
Attach one end of the birdseed garland to the wreath frame with a floral U hook. Hide the knotted end between the greenery. Arrange the birdseed garland around the face of the wreath using floral U hooks to hold the wire to the foam frame.
