    Finding a Cheap Tablecloth

    • 1). Scout around at yard sales. Often people try to sell items like tablecloths and other accessories after redecorating their homes. Community and church yard sales are especially good venues for cheap tablecloths. If you feel a tablecloth at a yard sale is too expensive, try some polite haggling. Often people will sell their yard sale items for much less than they're marked.

    • 2). Shop your local thrift stores, where you'll often find cheap tablecloths in abundance.

    • 3). Ask friends or family members who are redecorating their homes to sell or give you their old tablecloths. Many people have more than a few tablecloths that they don't use anymore because they don't match existing decor.

    Making a Cheap Tablecloth

    • 1). Measure your tabletop with a tape measure. Consider how far you'd like your tablecloth to hang over the edges of your table, and add those measurements to the measurements of the tabletop. For example, if you'd like the tablecloth to hang 5 inches over each edge of the table, add 10 inches to both the length and width of your tabletop measurement.

    • 2). Purchase a discount fabric. Look for sales at your local superstore or sewing center to find a good price. Look for fabrics that can easily be washed, and wash and iron the fabric before you measure and cut it to allow for shrinkage.

    • 3). Cut out your fabric according to your dimensions, making sure to add about half an inch all around for a hem.

    • 4). Using either a backstitch on your sewing machine or fabric glue if you don't know how to sew, hem the fabric. Place your new tablecloth on your table to check its fit.
