    • 1). Clean the area to be covered with resin thoroughly with an all-purpose cleaner and rags, being sure to remove any oil or grease stains.

    • 2). Brush on a coat of the release wax and allow it to sit for 1/2 hour. Apply a second coat and allow it to dry for 1/2 hour.

    • 3). Apply the release agent with a sprayer. Apply a steady even coat over the entire area to be covered with the resin. Allow 4 hours to dry.

    • 4). Use a polyester resin kit that includes both the catalyst and gel coat. Use the amount of catalyst recommended by the manufacturer in the polyester resin kit. Mix the catalyst into the gel coat and stir it with a wooden stirrer. The mixing cups and stirrers should be included in the kit as well.

    • 5). Work carefully but quickly once the gel coat and catalyst are mixed so that the gel coat does not harden before you put it on the area you will be covering. Use even brush strokes and when finished let it dry overnight.

    • 6). Use the table in the kit to calculate the amount of resin and catalyst to use. Mix them together and brush a thick coat on the area to be covered.

    • 7). Repeat Step 6 if you need another coat on the area you are covering. Allow it to dry for 24 hours before continuing to work on any project on which you are using the resin-covered item.
