    Creating the Totoro Shapes

    • In "My Neighbor Totoro," three totoros, a very large one and two much smaller ones, befriend the little girl that is the main character of the movie. All three totoros consist of an egg-shape with arms that typically hang down to the side. They also have pointy rabbit-like ears. The two bigger totoros have a lighter colored circle that makes up their stomach. A few little chevron shapes on the circle indicate a fur-like texture. Totoros have round white eyes with a black round pupil, and in some pictures, they will also have a few pointy whiskers. Depending on the mood of the totoro, it could either have a big mouth or a tiny, almost non-existent one.

    Rice Cereal Totoro Craft

    • To make totoros out of crispy rice cereal treat mix, you first need to make the treat mix. The Kellogg's website says to first melt 3 tbsp. of butter or margarine and 4 cups of miniature marshmallows together over a low heat setting in a large saucepan. Remove the pan from the heat when the mixture is completely melted, then stir in 6 cups of crispy rice cereal to complete the treat mix. Wet your hands or spray them lightly with a non-stick cooking spray, and then carefully take a hunk the size of the totoro you want to create out of the pan. Shape it into a totoro. Melt some chocolate and carefully dip the ears, top of the head and back side of the totoro into the chocolate. Use white chocolate chips, tip-side down, for the eyes, dabbing the center with a dot for the Totoro's pupils.

    Door Hanger Craft

    • Children can easily make totoro foam door hangers with a little help from an adult. Buy ready made foam door hangers and 8 by 10 inch sheets of foam or foam that has been pre-cut into various shapes. Cut out a large oval shape for the body and a medium-size circle for the totoro's stomach. Cut pieces in the shape of the totoro's arms and ears. Have the children glue all of the pieces together to create a totoro. They can then either glue googly eyes on the totoro or draw them. Finally, have the child glue the totoro on the pre-made door hanger.

    Paper Crafts

    • Totoros can also be made of paper. Cut out the large oval and medium-size circle for the totoro's body, along with the arms and pointy rabbit ears from colored paper and glue them together to create your own little totoro. Have your youngster paint a forest background with watercolors on another piece of paper and then glue the totoro onto it to create your own mythical scene.
