How to Make a Freezer Into a Beer Dispenser

    • 1). Find a compatible keg size to fit inside your freezer. Check that the freezer can close with ease while the keg is inside.

    • 2). Determine where to store your CO2 cylinder. Depending on the space available inside the freezer, you may need to store the cylinder outside. If your cylinder is stored outside, make sure it is upright and away from heat sources.

    • 3). Install a temperature controller. The controller has a mechanism that will override the thermostat in the freezer component and keep the temperature at an appropriate level for storing beer. Plug the power cord from the freezer into the controller and plug the controller into the power outlet in the wall. Run the probe attached to the controller into the freezer component. Cut a slot under the lid gasket on the freezer. Push the probe through and seal the slit with silicone cement. Hang the controller on the outside. Use the dial to set the desired temperature.

    • 4). Drill a hole in the side of the freezer for the faucet mount. Fastening hardware should be included with your installation kit. Use these pieces to secure the faucet in place. Screw the tap handle onto the faucet until it is secure; avoid overtightening.

    • 5). Drill a hole in the side or top of the freezer for a gas line, if you're storing the CO2 cylinder outside the dispenser. The hole should be big enough to feed the gas line through to the keg inside but not large enough to allow excess air flow from outside.

    • 6). Connect the gas hoses from the CO2 cylinder and the keg coupler to the CO2 regulator.

    • 7). Thread the beer line to the keg coupler and faucet. Make sure the connection is secure.

    • 8). Turn the CO2 cylinder valve to the open position on the line flowing from the regulator to the keg. The pressure should be adjusted to approximately 13 lbs.
