    • 1). Select a dish towel in a pattern or color you like. The size of the dish towel will determine the size of the bag. An 18-inch-by-30-inch towel is a common size and works great for this project. Smaller or larger towels can be used as well.

    • 2). Fold the towel in half lengthwise. Trim about 7 inches of fabric from one end of the rectangle. This will be later be used for the bag handle.

    • 3). Sew a ¼-inch seam on all three sides of the bag. You can sew the seam by hand if you don't have access to a sewing machine.

    • 4). Cut two strips from the leftover piece of dishtowel. Each strip should be about 2 ½-inches wide. These strips will be the handles.

    • 5). Fold each strip in half lengthwise and sew up the sides, staying about ¼ inch from the fabric edge. Attach a safety pin to one end of each handle and use the safety pin to pull the strips right side out.

    • 6). Trim the handles to approximately 17 inches long and whip stitch the ends. Handles can be longer or shorter if you would like. Determine where you would like the handles and sew them onto the bag about 2 inches from the opening.
