How to Make Chain Clasps

    • 1). Measure a piece of wire using a ruler. You'll want a piece that measures 11 centimeters. This will ensure that the piece is long enough to make a clasp for a chain.

    • 2). Cut the wire using a pair of pliers. Make the cut as even and clean as possible.

    • 3). Use the needle-nose pliers to hold one end of the wire and hold the other end with your thumb and index finger. Rotate your wrist with your pliers hand in a circle until that end of the wire touches the rest of the wire in a loop form. Using your thumb and index finger, curl the loop into a flat spiral with three complete turns while holding the straight end with the round-nose pliers.

    • 4). Use the needle-nose pliers to make a small loop on the other end of the wire. This loop should be about two millimeters in diameter. The loop and spiral should be turned toward each other.

    • 5). Use the round-nose pliers to grip the wire directly under the small loop. The wire should be held vertically in the pliers so the loop is on the top and the spiral is on the bottom.

    • 6). Bend the spiral upwards with your thumb and index finger toward the wire in the pliers to form an uneven U shape. Continue bending the wire so the back of the loop rests on the straight part of the wire.

    • 7). Open the jump ring with your round-nose pliers. Slip the ring through the spiral's center and then close the ring.
