    Chambers Lake

    • Managed under the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission's Big Bass Program, Chambers Lake offers some of the best bass fishing in Pennsylvania, even though it is a fairly small impoundment at only 90 acres. Chambers is also a relatively young lake, constructed in 1994. In addition to largemouth and smallmouth bass, which can be caught in the lake's extensive rock piles and stump fields, Chambers Lake also has healthy populations of chain pickerel and catfish. Bullhead, bluegill and crappie are also found here, and the lake is stocked with rainbow trout annually.

    Marsh Creek Lake

    • Marsh Creek Lake is home to a variety of warm-water game fish. It is known for its excellent crappie fishing; these fish can be caught around brush piles at the lake's shallower upper end. Anglers also routinely catch good-sized perch and bluegill. Managed under the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission's Big Bass Program, Marsh Creek Lake has above-average largemouth fishing, though fishing pressure can make the bass skittish. The lake is the site of several tournaments around the year, some of which are open to the public. There is access at Marsh Creek State Park.

    Valley Creek

    • A spring-fed limestone creek about 30 feet wide, Valley Creek is home to native populations of wild brown trout. The creek stays cool even in summer, so trout fishing is available year-round. Fly fishing is generally the technique of choice here, as the many natural insect hatches occur on the creek. No-kill regulations and an absence of stocking allow the native trout to thrive here, and browns up to 20 inches can be found, with 16-inch fish being fairly common. Some of the surrounding land is posted, but open water can be found by hiking upstream. There is parking and access off Route 29.

    Brandywine Creek

    • Accessible through Brandywine Creek State Park, this stream offers good fishing for smallmouth bass, bluegill and crappie. Trout can be caught at Wilson's Run, also in the park. Canoeing and float tubing are popular ways to fish this creek, and there are 12 miles of hiking trails along the Brandywine Creek shore, making for ample access.

    White Clay Creek

    • Considered by local fishermen to be one of the best trout streams in the area, White Clay Creek is stocked several times a season. There is a special delayed harvest as well as artificial-lures-only regulations on the Middle Branch of the creek, but any bait may be used in the East Branch. Much of the creek flows through the 1,341-acre White Clay Creek Preserve in the southern part of Chester County.
