How to Make a Desk for Your Home Office
- 1). Measure the height of the file cabinet.
- 2). Measure the thickness of the door.
- 3). Add the two measurements together.
- 4). Select a wall in your home office to place one end of the desk. When using one file cabinet, you need to secure one end of the desk to a wall.
- 5). Measure up the wall, the same number of inches as the measurement arrived at in Step 3.
- 6). Draw a line at the point determined in the previous step, making the line parallel to the floor. Make the line approximately 6 inches long. When assembled, the end of the desk (one end of the door) covers the line.
- 7). Nail the strip of wood below the line. Position the top of the strip exactly on the line. The wood strip should be at least 6 inches long, and no longer than the width of the door. Use a wood strip that's 1 or 2 inches thick.
- 8). Position the two-door filing cabinet at the ultimate destination end of the desk, opposite the end of the desk attached to the wall.
- 9). Lay the door across the file cabinet and wood strip to create the desktop. One end of the desktop rests along the wood strip; position the opposite end over the file cabinet.
- 10
Lift the end of the door resting along the wood strip. Apply a line of liquid nail to the top of the wood strip, and press the top down. The liquid nail will secure the desktop to the wall. Allow the liquid nail to dry thoroughly.
