How to Use Fiberglass Drywall Tape
- 1). Lay a section of fiberglass drywall tape over the entire length of the joint.
- 2). Press it onto the joint, making sure to keep it centered.
- 3). Cut away any loose strands or excess fiberglass tape with a utility knife. The tape should lay as flat as possible.
- 4). Cover the entire length of the fiberglass drywall tape with a coat of setting-type joint compound, applied with a 12-inch drywall knife. Feather the edges and leave the surface as smooth as possible.
- 5). Allow the joint compound to dry according to the product directions.
- 6). Sand the dried joint with 100-grit sandpaper. Apply another coat of compound to the joint if the surface is still not smooth. Let the compound dry, then sand it.
