• 1). Add area rugs to the hardwood floors. The exact number that you need depends on how large the room is. For a medium-sized living room, two or three area rugs should be sufficient. Not only will they keep your feet warm, but, like carpet, they can warm up the room in general.
  
  
• 2). Add one or two space heaters. Again, this depends on the size of the room. Space heaters are a cost-effective way to warm up a room with hardwood floors, without having to turn the heater on full blast. Place them in corners, away from anything that could be a potential fire hazard.
  
  
• 3). Add heavy curtains to windows. This has an insulating effect that will keep cold air out and warmth in.
