How to Pour a Large Concrete Slab
- 1). Measure the area where you want to pour the concrete and place a stake in each of the corners to mark the position of the slab.
- 2). Measure the gradient of the slab area using a level and dig down into the area where the slab will be poured to even out the soil.
- 3). Place 2 by 4s to make the shape of the concrete slab. Behind the 2 by 4s place 2 by 2 stakes every few inches and secure the 2 by 4s to the stakes using the screws.
- 4). Place a layer of wire mesh at the bottom of the slab area to reinforce the concrete slab. Spray the entire area with a garden hose to make it slightly wet.
- 5). Mix your concrete according to the packaging instructions.
- 6). Pour the concrete into one corner of the slab and spread it across the area using the flat end of a rake. Once it is spread evenly across the area, hit the support on the side using a rubber mallet to blow out any air bubbles that may be in the concrete.
- 7). Run a 2 by 4 along the top of the concrete slab to even out the concrete and make it smooth. Run a bull float afterwards along the length of the slab to smooth it further.
- 8). Place a long board across the length of the concrete slab for you to crawl on and smooth out the slab using a metal trowel. Finish the side using the metal trowel by making the edges smooth.
