How to Make an Origami Mirage Jet

  • 1). Lay the paper flat so a short edge is closest to you and the long edges are running in line with the direction you are facing, then fold the left edge over to align with the right edge. Crease along the fold, the unfold the paper.

  • 2). Fold the far right corner down to the left edge, crease and unfold, then repeat with the far left corner to the right edge. You will now have a crease bisecting the page, and an X-shaped crease with its center over the long crease.

  • 3). Flip the page over then fold the far edge down, creating a crease which passes through the point the other creases intersect. Unfold, then turn the paper back over.

  • 4). Fold the far right corner down so the point of the corner touches where the prior creases intersect, then repeat with the far left corner.

  • 5). Fold the left side of the paper under the right along the long crease.

  • 6). Fold the near right corner of the top flap in, creating a small triangle with a bottom side that is nearly parallel to the long, angular crease. Flip the paper over and make a matching triangular fold on the second flap.

  • 7). Unfold along the long crease, pulling the bottom flap out from under the top flap. You will be left with an irregular hexagon shape.

  • 8). Grip the far corners of the sides of the hexagon running in line with the direction you are facing and pull them in to the center crease. The prior folds will allow the paper to collapse in crating a hexagon with very short sides that run in the direction you are facing.

  • 9). Fold the left half of the paper under the right half along the long, vertical crease. Rotate the paper 90 degrees, so the long flat side is nearest you.

Grab the triangular flap on the left-bottom of the folded paper and fold it down, then fold the point of the triangle back up to the bottom of the main body of the paper, so the folded edge runs along the bottom of the main shape.

  • 11

Fold the top of the main body down, so the edge of the fold runs flat along the bottom of the main body of the folded craft.

  • 12

Fold the lower right corner of the section you just folded back up, so it extends above the fold line of the prior fold, then fold the small triangle still extended below the main body up and over the main body again.

  • 13

Flip the paper over and repeat the prior folds by folding the triangle down, then the point of the triangle up. Fold the main body down, then bend the corner of the body back up over the crease and secure the fold by bringing the small triangle back up and over it.

Unfold the plane and rotate the paper so the large section is nearest you, with a pointed section pointed away from you. Fold the right half over the left half.

  • 15

Fold the top point of the plane down toward you, creating a crease approximately 1 inch from the bottom edge of the plane. Unfold, then fold along the same crease line in the opposite direction

  • 16

Pull the two sides of the plane apart and pull the section you just folded in both direction down so it points down in the opposite direction as it did before the prior folds. The prior folds allow it to collapse down.

  • 17

Press the sides back in while pushing the point of the pulled down section up, creating creases in the pulled down section so that a triangular section extends from the top of the main body starting at approximately the midpoint of the main body. This is the tail fin of the jet.

Fold the triangular flaps below the main body up to make the wings of the plane.
