How to Make Cabbage Silk Roses

    • 1). Cut a strip of silk fabric that is 3 inches wide and 45 inches long.

    • 2). Use scissors to cut a wavy edge along the top of the strip, working lengthwise. Cutting a loosely scalloped, undulating edge will create the petals of the finished rose.

    • 3). Insert a needle and thread into the bottom edge at one end of the strip and baste along that edge loosely, pulling the thread as you go to create a gathered effect. Snip off the needle and knot the thread when you reach the end of the strip.

    • 4). Gather the basted, 45-inch strip down to a length of between 10 and 20 inches.

    • 5). Roll the gathered strip, working from one end toward the other. You can wrap the strip around your finger and then slide your finger out, or roll it up onto itself on a smooth surface, such as a table. For a natural look, don't roll too tightly.

    • 6). Adjust the rose as you desire, pulling and pushing petals and adjusting the center to achieve the look you are after.

    • 7). Sew several stitches at the base of the rose to hold it together.
