    Clean the DVD

    • 1). Place the disc upside down on a flat, hard surface.

    • 2). Dab a small amount of alcohol on the cloth.

    • 3). Wipe in a straight line from the center of the disc to the outer edge. Repeat the motion for the entire surface taking care not to rub in a circular motion.

    • 4). Wave the DVD in the air to speed up the drying process or let it air dry. Try the DVD again to see if the error returns.

    Remove Scratches

    • 1). Lay the disc flat and apply the liquid scratch remover according to the directions on the label.

    • 2). Rub back and forth from the center to the edge.

    • 3). Wait for the solution to dry, then gently knock off the residue in short strokes.

    Replace Cables

    • 1). Open the PC case by removing the four screws located in the back. Your system may have more or less; remove them all and place aside.

    • 2). Locate the IDE or SATA cable and remove it from the back of the drive and the motherboard. The IDE cable is about 2 to 3 inches wide, the SATA cable will be much thinner and usually red in color.

    • 3). Replace the cable with the new one and reattach the PC case. Power on the computer.

    • 4). Try multiple DVDs to determine if the problem is the disc or the drive. If they all result in CRC errors, replace the drive.
