How to Disable the Windows Genuine Advantage Notice
- 1). Reboot your system and press the "F8" key continuously before Windows launches. The "Windows Advanced Options Menu" screen displays.
- 2). Select "Safe Mode" by using the keyboard's arrow keys, then press "Enter." Windows will start up in Safe Mode.
- 3). Click on the "Start" menu, click "Run" and type "regedit" in the provided text field. Click "OK" or press Enter. The Registry Editor opens up.
Windows Vista and 7 users, click on the "Start" orb button, type "regedit" in the "Start Search" text field and press "Enter." - 4). Click on the "+" sign that corresponds to the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" hive. This expands, and a list of keys or folders displays.
- 5). Continue expanding the following folders: SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows NT > CurrentVersion > Winlogon > Notify. Delete the Wgalogon folder by right-clicking on it and selecting "Delete" from the drop-down menu options.
- 6). Right-click on the Windows task bar and click on "Task Manager" from the drop-down menu options. The "Task Manager" window opens up.
- 7). Select the "Processes" tab. Right-click on the "wgatray.exe" process and select "End Process Tree" from the drop-down menu.
- 8). Go to the Start menu and click on "Search." Search under your primary drive (usually the C:\ drive) and enter "wga*" (without the quotation marks) in the provided search field.
Windows Vista and 7 users, access the "Start" orb button, type "wga*" in the "Start Search" text field and press "Enter." You can also click on "Search" on the right pane. This launches the "Search Explorer" - 9). Right-click on "wgatray.exe" and rename it "wgatray.exe.bak". Do the same with other WGA files.
