Make a template. Search books and websites for a simple gingerbread boy shape. It should have outstretched arms and wide spaced legs. This makes them easier to cut out, and allows you the option of having the arms connect or be separate.

    • 2). Trace the gingerbread boy shape onto heavy cardstock or cardboard. Cut it carefully because it will become your stencil.

    • 3). Stack several sheets of paper on top of each other and trace the template onto the top page. Cut out several gingerbread boys at once, holding the papers carefully so they don't slide. Alternately, rather than stacking several sheets, fold a long rectangular piece of paper accordion style. Make sure each fold in the "accordion" is the same width as your gingerbread template. Then, when you cut out the gingerbread boys, don't cut around the ends of the arms. This will keep the gingerbread boys attached, and they will appear to be holding hands.

    • 4). Students can use the cut gingerbread boys as the front and back covers to a book, with gingerbread boy shaped lined paper inside. Tell the students to give a summary of the story, or to write about what they would do if made of gingerbread. Alternatively, let students can decorate their gingerbread boys with tiny buttons, small pom-poms and felt bow ties. Cut gingerbread boys out of fun foam, and have students decorate them for a simple Christmas tree decoration.
