- 1). Visit Skype's website and download its program onto a laptop or PC. The download is free.
- 2). Sign up for a free Skype account. Create a screen name, and provide an email address.
- 3). Ask the person in India to also sign up for a free Skype account, if she hasn't already done so.
- 4). Accept the other person as a contact.
- 5). Plug in the headset to the computer, or set up speakers and confirm that the computer's microphone is working.
- 6). Call the person through Skype. Skype video chats and Skype-to-Skype calls are free.
