The cold river waters in the region are perfect for wild steelhead. Fisherman visit the state to explore rivers, creeks and streams to try their skill and luck. The most popular ways to fish for steelhead are by fishing from rafts, drift boats and by wading deep into local waters and fly fishing. The state has a number of popular parks, campgrounds and towns that you can explore while visiting. - Fish for steelhead along the Skykomish river near Monroe. This city with a population of 16,000 is between Everett and Bothell. The city is known mostly for its recreational opportunities and for its natural setting that includes several maintained public parks that sit along the edge of the river. As you follow the river to the east you will find yourself in a mountain area rich with lakes, streams and waterfalls. Tourists enjoy fishing, rafting, swimming, hiking, skiing, climbing and camping.
- In recent years, Forks has become more well known as the setting for the Twilight movie franchise than for anything else but the the city has a long history of recreation. Steelhead fishing along the area's waterways is very popular and Forks considers itself to be a world-class fishing destination. Fish for steelhead along the Bogachiel, Hoh, Sol Duc and Calawah Rivers that all run through Forks at one point or another. The city has a plentiful selection of shops, hotels and restaurants and its primary source of employment is the timber industry.
- Quilcene and Brinnon are rich in recreational opportunities. These two small towns sit just minutes apart off of Highway 101 which is known for its scenic natural setting. Qulicene is the home of the Olympic National Forest and Olympic National Park. The area offers a number of activities including camping, hiking, flower viewing, mushroom hunting and shellfish harvesting. Fishermen visiting the area often take to the Elwha River in search of steelhead. The river is calm and boats have no problem accessing it. A number of small mountain streams flow from the river and are popular destinations for fly fishermen seeking to catch steelhead.
