How to Create Plastic Fishing Lures
- 1). When selecting baits to re-create, considered the intricacy of the bait you want to produce. The following steps detail how to make a one-piece mold, which means one side of your bait will have a flat side. Baits with no legs, such as worms, are the easiest to reproduce. Baits with thin legs are the hardest. Select and wash the baits you want to re-create and set them aside.
- 2). Mix plaster of paris according to the directions and pour into a foil pan. Place selected baits in the bottom of the pan, and fill the pan up to about 1/2 inch with plaster. Let the mix set according to directions. When the mix is hard to the touch, remove the pan and bait and let set for the remainder of the time according to the directions.
- 3). Place old used baits in a microwave-safe measuring cup and place the cup in a microwave oven and heat at 50 percent power until the mix is thoroughly melted. Stir often. Be careful not to cook too quickly, or else the plastic might burn.
- 4). Coat your new mold with cooking spray, and use turkey injector to fill your mold. Let new bait sit in the mold until the plastic is hard and cool to the touch.
- 5). Remove new bait and wash. Place new bait in a small plastic bag, add scent to suit your personal fishing practices, seal and store for your next fishing trip.
