How to Make Butterfly Wall Decorations for Kids
- 1). Draw an outline of a butterfly onto a sheet of patterned scrapbook paper. Consider using butterfly shaped stencils or paper punches if you have them instead of hand drawing the shape. Use scissors to cut the butterfly shape out of the paper. You may use any type of scissors, including pinking shears or those with different cutting edges, to cut out the shape.
- 2). Trace the outline of each of the butterfly's wings onto a different color or pattern of scrapbook paper. Use different styles of paper for each wing or make them all with the same design. Cut each wing out of the paper and trim approximately 1/4-inch off each wing piece.
- 3). Lay the large butterfly shape flat on your work surface with the design facing up. Place a line of glue on the back of each wing piece and position them on top of the large outline in their proper locations.
- 4). Repeat steps two and three to create an additional layer of wings if you like. This is not necessary, merely an option.
- 5). Cut a long skinny oval shape out of scrapbook paper to create a body for the butterfly. Place a line of glue on the back of the body and position it vertically over the center of the wings.
- 6). Cut a small circle, slightly larger than the body to create the butterfly's head. Place a bit of glue on the bottom of the back of the head and position it over the top edge of the butterfly's body.
- 7). Rub a glue stick over the entire butterfly or on sporadic areas, such as the wings or body, and sprinkle the glue with glitter. Allow the butterfly to dry.
- 8). Flip the butterfly over and place a generous amount of glue on the back using the glue stick. Position the butterfly, facing up, over the center of the canvas. Press gently with your fingers from the center of the butterfly outward to remove any gaps between the paper and the canvas.
