    Cut the Wooden Stick

    • 1). Cut the stick until it's about 21 inches long. A hockey stick or scrap lumber would work fine for the purpose of a homemade ice fishing holder. Cut a 45-degree angle on one end of the wood with a handsaw or jigsaw.

    • 2). Drill two holes 4 inches apart on the wood. They should be as close to the middle of the stick as possible. The holes should be just a bit smaller than the width of the stick.

    • 3). Cut the wooden doweling into two 1-inch lengths. Force the resulting small pegs into the holes in the stick with the angle cut on it. Make sure that the pegs aren't so small that they go right through the wood. You want them to be snug.

    • 4). Drill a very small hole in the angled end of the wood and put the base of the doorstop in it. Take the rest of the doorstop and screw it into the base of the homemade ice fishing holder so it will not fall off.

    • 5). Fit the eye screws onto the 2-foot stick. Place one eye screw about a third of the way down your stick, and put another at the very bottom flat round surface of the stick. Make sure the eye screws are in all the way because there will be tension on them when you have a fish on the line. Push the stick into the narrow end of the door stop.

    • 6). Run the fishing line through the eye screws and stand the tip up in a pile of snow in front of the hole you are ice fishing in. Your fishing pole sits on the "Y"stick, supported by the snow you firmly shape around it.
