- 1). As dog hair accumulates, use a dust mop or soft broom to sweep across the floor, collecting any dog hair that is left on the floors from day to day. Dust mops are designed for cleaning delicate surfaces such as hardwood, while a soft broom will prevent the scratches that a regular hard-bristled broom can cause.
- 2). One to two times per week, clean the floor with a mop and homemade cleaning solution. In a bucket, mix a gallon of warm water with two squirts of liquid dish detergent. The detergent will work as a mild cleaning agent that will collect hair and dander without harming the hardwood floors. Agitate the solution until soap suds form.
- 3). Also add in a cup of baking soda, which will deodorize the floors. Rooms can often emit an unattractive pet odor, as fur and dander build up in the area. The baking soda will work to eliminate this odor, leaving the room smelling fresh.
- 4). Dip a mop in the cleaner, then wring out excess water. Mop across the floors, dipping back in the solution regularly. This will quickly collect loose hair, as well as any dander.
- 5). Dry the floors with a clean mop, or let the floors air dry on their own. Either way, the detergent will clean while leaving behind a streak-free shine with no residue.
