How to Clean a Cheap Rug
- 1). Take the cheap rug outdoors; a patio or driveway is ideal. Sweep the rug with a straw broom to remove as much dust and dirt as possible.
- 2). Apply a gentle carpet shampoo according to product instructions.
- 3). Put on rubber gloves. Work the shampoo into the cheap rug using a soft-bristled scrubbing brush and minimal pressure, brushing in straight strokes with the pile. If you don't want to get down on the ground, use a soft-bristled broom instead.
- 4). Let the shampoo set into the rug if the product instructions state so. Otherwise, rinse the rug with fresh water from a garden hose.
- 5). Brush off as much water as you can with the scrubbing brush or broom, then lay the cheap rug to dry in a semi-shady spot. Or, use a wet vacuum to suck up the majority of the water on the rug. Turn the rug over once the front dries, as the back will most likely still be damp.
