How to Remove a Toilet Bolt Screw
- 1). Turn off the water to the toilet at the valve behind it. Disconnect the water line to the toilet by unscrewing the quick connect at the valve. Have a rag handy, because a little water will leak out of the hose.
- 2). Flush the toilet and hold the handle down to release most of the water, then plunge the rest of the water down.
- 3). Try to unscrew the nuts on the bolts. If they won't move or won't come all the way off, spray them with some WD-40 and let them sit for about 15 to 30 minutes. Then try to get them off again.
- 4). If they still will not come off, cut the bolts with a hacksaw just under the nuts. The bolts are very inexpensive to replace. Don't try to beat the bolt with a hammer or you will break your toilet.
- 5). Now you can remove the toilet and pull the remains of the bolts out of the flange that they sit in.
