Chimney Cleaning Equipment
- Select a brush that is sized correctly for your chimney. Brushes come in square, rectangular and circle shapes. They serve to scrub the creosote and soot off the inside of your chimney.
- The rod extends the brush up the chimney. It comes in either fiberglass, poly or nylon, depending on the length and flexibility required.
- Some chimneys are too long for a rod. In this case, the brush is placed on a pull ring and scrubs the interior of the chimney by being transferred through the chimney on a rope.
- A fireplace cover prevents the dislodged soot and creosote from crashing down into the home, containing the ensuing dust. It is most typically used with a vacuum for ash that is attached to the firebox.
- Despite the use of the fireplace cover, you need coverings for any furnishings in the room that contains the chimney being cleaned. Soot and creosote dust can potentially mar any furnishings, so a cover is a cautious choice.
- Goggles, a dust mask and gloves are all required equipment when cleaning a chimney. Soot and creosote are gritty and dusty, so appropriate devices to prevent eye injury or inhalation are key.
