How to Clean Dirty Miniblinds
- 1). Fabric sheets aren't just for your laundry. Slightly dampen a fabric softener sheet with water or cleaning spray and wipe it gently across the miniblind slats. The fabric sheets will clean the blinds and emit a fresh scent, but best of all, the antistatic property of the dryer sheet will transfer to the blinds, so they'll repel dust.
- 2). Mix a small amount of dishwashing liquid and water in a bucket. If you use a minimum amount of dishwashing liquid, you won't have to rinse the blinds with clean water. Put on an old cotton glove and dip your hand in the soapy water. Grip each slat with your thumb on the bottom and your fingers on the top, and run you hand along the slat. You'll be cleaning the top and bottom of the slat at the same time. Dry with a soft, dry cloth. Again, you don't have to take the blind down to clean it with this method.
- 3). Kitchen miniblinds seem to get the most grimy because of the grease and food particles in the air. Use the cotton glove method often, or use an old clean sock over your hand to clean them. The more frequently you wash the kitchen miniblinds, the less likely it is that the grease will mix with dust and food to create a thick grime that's harder to clean away.
