How to Put on a New Fishing Line
- 1). Remove the old fishing line from the rod by inserting a small stick into the chuck of your variable speed drill. Tie the fishing line's end to the dowel and wrap it around several times to ensure that the line does not slip during the removal.
- 2). Open the spinning reel bail while loosely holding the line near the dowel. Start the drill to rotate the dowel and collect the line from your spinning reel. The spinning dowel will strip the fishing line from the reel.
- 3). Remove the dowel from your drill and dispose of your old fishing line to prepare for the installation of the new one.
- 4). Thread your new fishing line through the eyes of your fishing rod, starting from its tip and working your way toward the reel.
- 5). Tie the line of your reel's spool and open the bail. Place the spool holding your new fishing line on the ground, right below the tip of your fishing pole. This will prevent the pole from unspooling in the same direction it winds around as it spools on the reel.
- 6). Place your hand between 6 and 10 inches on your fishing pole's reel. Hold the fishing line gently as it winds around the spool.
- 7). Fill your spool with the new fishing line. The weight of the line that you will put in your spool will depend on its size. Use your fingernail clippers to cut the line from your spool. Tie the end of the line on a hook to prepare it for fishing.
