    Zune Software

    • Your Zune comes with software that you will need to install onto your computer. A USB cord is included with your Zune purchase and will connect your Zune to your computer so you can charge the battery and sync your music and other data. If you can't load the Zune software from the CD, you can get support at zune.net/en-us/meetzune/software.htm and click on "Download Zune."

    Loading Music

    • You can load songs on your Zune by setting your computer to copy them from a CD and by buying them from the Zune Marketplace.

    Sync

    • Synching means moving your content from your computer to your Zune player. The first time you sync your Zune it will take a long time to move your content to your device. It will also take a long time if you haven't synched in a while.

    Zune Marketplace/Pass

    • Zune sells songs you can add to your collection in the Zune Marketplace. Type a song title, artist name or album into the search box in the upper right corner and click on the magnifying glass. Your results will include both songs from your existing collection and Zune Marketplace results, which you need to buy.
A Zune Pass provides unlimited access to Zune's library. If you don't have a Zune pass, you pay for songs individually. Most selections are 99 cents. You also can pay with Microsoft Points, which can be used on Xbox Live Marketplace, Games for Windows--Live Marketplace, Windows Live Gallery and Zune stores. A Zune pass is a $14.99-per-month subscription. You get unlimited access to songs while you hold the subscription; 10 of the songs you download each month are yours to keep, even after the subscription expires.

    FM Radio

    • Zune has a built-in FM radio tuner, unlike some other MP3 players.

    Zune Controls

    • Controls on earlier models include a directional pad, which evolved into a Zune Pad for second generation models. The Zune HD has a touch screen. These controls allow you to turn the Zune on and off, play, pause and scroll through your content. There is also a "Lock" switch.

    Earphones

    • The Zune comes with earphones, but other earphones can be used to listen to content.

    Capacity

    • Different Zunes have varying storage space. For example, the 8 GB holds up to 2,000 songs, or 25,000 pictures, or 24 hours of video; and the 80 GB can hold up to 20,000 songs, or 25,000 pictures, or 250 hours of video.

    Wireless Sync

    • Zune has the ability to sync wirelessly with a computer, and has peer-to-peer wireless capabilities (from one Zune to another Zune). When not using the wireless, turn it off or it will run down the battery.

    Zune Collection

    • Songs will be on your computer in your Zune library, but not on your Zune until you sync.
