How to Back Up Windows XP Before Activation
- 1). Insert your Windows XP CD in your computer's drive and click "Exit" on the window that appears. Click "Start" and then type "CDDrive:\ValueAdd\Msft\Ntbackup" in the "Run" box, replacing "CDDRIVE" with the letter of your drive. Double-click "Ntbackup.msi" to install the Windows XP backup utility. Click "Finish" when the process completes and remove the CD from your drive.
- 2). Click "Start" and "Run." Enter "ntbackup.exe" in the box that appears and click "OK." Select "Advanced Mode" and click "Backup." Select "New" in the "Job" menu and select the check boxes next to the drive that contains your Windows XP installation. Click the "System State" check box under "My Computer."
- 3). Click the backup destination in the "Backup destination" list and click "Start Backup." Click "Advanced" and choose "Verify data after backup." Select "Normal" as your "Backup Type" and click "OK." Click "Start Backup" to perform the backup.
- 4). Click "Close" when the process completes and select "Exit" on the "Job" menu.
