Review of Top Features in Evernote
About.com Rating
Evernote could be your best bet for a note taking app, but check these system requirements, accessibility alternatives, support options, and more before you decide.Â
The following are rated on a scale of Excellent, Good, or Poor.
Operating System(s):Â Excellent
In addition to Evernote Web, which operates in a browser and therefore can be accessed by most computers or devices, Evernote apps are available for Windows Desktop, Windows 8 (Touch), Mac OS X, Android, iOS, Windows Phone, and Blackberry.
Devices Per License:Â Excellent
Users can sign up free accounts, but group accounts may have user limits. See page 2 of this review for more on available plans.
Security, Document Password Protection, and Encryption:Â Excellent
For specifics on security, check out this blog post on security upgrades in Evernote, which include two-step verification, access history, and authorized applications.
Crash Recovery, Autosave, or Backup: ExcellentÂ
Notes are saved automatically in Evernote.
Accessibility Options:Â Poor
Check out these accessibility topics in the Evernote forum for an idea on which issues have frustrated users needing alternative ways of interacting with the software.
Software Update Process: Excellent
While on-device apps may need updating, the cloud-integrated nature of Evernote means users are accessing the latest and greatest version whenever they log in.  Â
Program or Suite Support:Â Good
From within the program, Evernote's online Help & Support is available, and an online Evernote Knowledge Base is available, but I was unable to find documentation one can use offline.
