    • 1). Click "Start" and launch the "Control Panel" applet. Click the "System and Security" option (or System and Maintenance under Windows Vista). Click "System," followed by "Advanced System Settings" from the menu at hand. You may also click "Start," right-click "My Computer" and select "Properties" from the context menu shown.

    • 2). Click "Settings" from the Performance menu. Click "Advanced" followed by "Change" within the "Virtual Memory" menu.

    • 3). Disable "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" to enter a custom virtual memory size. Increase the amounts listed within the "Initial Size" and "Maximum Size" fields to effectively recover virtual memory. To recover disk space instead, reduce the amounts listed or select "No Paging File" to disable the use of virtual memory completely.

    • 4). Click "Set" followed by "OK" to save all system modifications and exit the System Properties menu.
