How to Remove Gum From Sidewalks
- 1). Cover the entire piece of gum with a large ice cube and let melt. Repeat with additional ice cubes until the gum is frozen hard and becomes stiff.
- 2). Tap gently at the base of the gum, using the pick end of a hammer, until the majority of the gum loosens and peels away. Do not use force when tapping as this may damage the sidewalk.
- 3). Combine 1/3 cup vinegar with 3 tbsp. lemon or orange oil and stir until well-blended. Apply a thick layer of solution to any remaining gum pieces and let soak for five to 10 minutes.
- 4). Scrub remaining gum with a firm-bristled scrub brush. Use short, firm strokes and scrub until remaining pieces flake off. Once clean wipe with a paper towel to remove excess oil.
- 5). Apply a small dab of peanut or coconut oil directly on the gum, if other methods fail, and rub vigorously with your fingers until gum becomes sticky, then peel off.
