    • 1). Measure the AC unit and the new window opening to ensure a proper fit. Remove the screen on the new window if there is one installed.

    • 2). Remove the mountings or external brackets from the old window frame and follow the instructions that came with the AC unit to install them in the new window frame.

    • 3). Turn the unit so that the controls will face inside the house when the unit is installed in the window. Make sure that the power cord can reach the nearest outlet. Get an extension cord, if necessary.

    • 4). Lift the AC unit with a helper, if needed, and carefully place it into the window frame. Make sure you have more than enough vertical space before you lift by opening up the window completely.

    • 5). Secure the mount, fittings, or external brackets to the AC unit.

    • 6). Close the window so that it rests on the top of the AC unit.

    • 7). Add any insulation that came with the AC unit or some of your own and fill the gap between the upper and lower window sashes. Screw the expandable sides of the AC unit in place to fill the remaining horizontal void between the AC unit and either side of the window opening.

    • 8). Plug in the AC unit and turn it on to make sure it is working properly.
