- 1). Right-click on the "My Computer" icon. Click "Properties." Click the "Advanced" tab. Click "Properties" in the window labeled "Performance." Click "Adjust for Best Performance." Click "Apply," and click "OK."
- 2). Click on the "Control Panel." Double-click on the "System" icon. Click "Automatic (recommended)" in the window marked "Automatic Updates." Click "OK."
- 3). Double-click on the "My Computer" icon. Right-click on your main hard drive. Click "Properties." Click "Disk Cleanup" under the General tab. Check the box next to each file type you wish to clean up, and then click "OK."
- 4). Double-click on the "My Computer" icon. Right-click on your main hard drive, and click "Properties." Click "Defragment Now" under the Tools tab. Click "OK." Highlight your hard drive in the next window and click "Defragment."
- 5). Double-click on the "My Computer" icon. Right-click on the main hard drive. Click "Properties." Click the "Check Now" option under the Tools tab. Check all the boxes in the window, and click "Start."
