    Cribbage Boards

    • Cribbage is a game played by two to four players. The game uses a board, marker pegs and a standard 52-card deck with the jokers left out. The design of a cribbage board is up to the board maker; the basic requirement is a board with parallel rows of holes. Cribbage game scoring takes place on the board using pegs as markers for each player. A typical board is made of clear hardwood; good woods to use include maple, ash and oak. Cut a 1-inch board to 4 by 12 inches. Lightly draw lines spaced 1/2 inch apart across the length of the board. Drill 3/16-inch holes at 1/4-inch centers and 1/2 inch deep along the lines to receive the marker pegs. Sand with fine sandpaper, and apply a clear finish. Standard golf tees make convenient marker pegs. Use a different peg color for each player.

    Tic-Tac-Toe Board

    • Kids love to play tic-tac-toe. Select a piece of hardwood measuring 8 by 8 inches. Using a countersinking drill bit, etch a pair of 6-inch vertical lines and a pair of horizontal lines 2 inches apart to form the cross-shaped board. Make all four lines V-shaped and about 1/8 inch deep. At the center of each square in the cross, use the countersinking drill to make conical holes 1/8 inch deep. Sand and finish the board as desired. Use black and white marbles for board pieces.

    Jamp-A-Peg Board

    • Find a square piece of clear hardwood with 6-1/2-inch sides and a thickness of 3/4 inch. Create a centered cross design with three vertical lines and three horizontal lines spaced 1/2 inch apart. Starting from the center point, drill 7/32-inch holes to a depth of 1/2 inch along each of the six lines. You will drill a total of 33 holes. Use a beveling bit to create a 1/8-inch bevel on all four sides of the upper edge. Sand and finish the board as desired. Create 1-by-3/16-inch peg devices from dowel material, and finish them as desired.

    Last Man Standing Board

    • Cut the board from 3/4-inch hardwood in an equilateral triangle 6-inch sides. Draw a line 1/2 inch from each side of the triangle, which will create a large triangle. Mark hole centers spaced 1 inch apart along these lines. Draw a smaller triangle inside the large triangle spaced 1 inch from each original line. Drill 7/32-inch holes 1/2-inch deep along the outer three lines, and at the points of the inner triangle. Your layout will now consist of 15 holes. The outer triangle will have 12 holes and the inner triangle three holes. Make 14 pegs 3/16 by 1 inch from dowel material, and finish as desired.
