Adding Code to Your Journal

• 1). Open the main LiveJournal page and select "Post an Entry" from below the "Journal" heading.
  
  
• 2). Click the "HTML" tab in the upper right corner to enter the HTML mode for your entry.
  
  
• 3). Paste or write the code that you want in your entry. The HTML editor can handle most basic HTML and scripting languages. If you want to enter your line and page breaks manually, instead of the HTML editor interpreting them when you hit the entry key, check "Disable Auto-Formatting."
  
  
• 4). Click the "Post to username" button when you're ready, with the username varying depending on whether you're posting to your personal journal or a community. Click the "Preview" button if you want to check your entry before posting it.
  
  

Adding Code to Your Layout

• 1). Go to the LiveJournal page and click "Journal Style" from below the journal heading.
  
  
• 2). Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the "Customize Selected Theme" button.
  
  
• 3). Click "Sidebar" to add content to your journal's sidebar. At the bottom of the sidebar options you'll see "Custom." This module can handle basic text HTML and images, but not videos or more complex script. To add the Custom module to your sidebar, select it from the drop boxes beside one of the modules under "Ordering" and press "Save Changes."
  
  
• 4). Click "Custom CSS" to change the CSS of your journal's stylesheet. If you have the stylesheet hosted in another location you can paste the URL into the "Custom External Stylesheet URL" text box. Otherwise you can write the custom stylesheet in the "Custom Stylesheet" text box. You can use your stylesheet to add tracking codes for sites like StatCounter or Google Analytics, change the basic view of your journal, and add certain elements. Click "Save Changes" when you're done modifying your stylesheet.
