How to Get Rid of Skunk Smell in the House
- 1). Wash immediately whatever brought the smell into your house in the first place. The sooner you wash your clothes, skin or dog, the better chance you have of stopping the smell from spreading. Regular laundry soap or shower gel is fine for this first washing.
- 2). Mix 1 quart of hydrogen peroxide with 1/4 cup of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of liquid soap. Use the cloth or sponge to rub down the sprayed items. If the skunk smell has rubbed off on chairs, rug, couch, etc., use the cloth or sponge to "shampoo" those areas with the mixture as well.
- 3). Rinse whatever you've washed with tap water. Repeat as necessary.
- 4). For further freshening of the house, use Febreze or Simple Green spray solutions. If the skunk sprayed the outside of your house too, wash it down with a bleach solution of 10 percent bleach, 90 percent water.
