How to Clean the Brushes on a Miller Welder

    • 1). Ensure that the generator is powered off and cool. Remove the cover on the side of the welder that houses the generator. This typically requires removing several small screws with a screwdriver.

    • 2). Locate the brushes. They ride on what is known as a the commutator plates, which are on the rotor.

    • 3). Blow the area clear of debris with compressed air.

    • 4). Check for signs of wear on the brushes or the slip rings. Worn brushes should be replaced, and damaged slip rings should be repaired or resurfaced. Miller Customer Service can help you locate a local dealer for service.

    • 5). Replace the cover on the side of the welder, and secure by tightening the screws that you previously removed.
