How to Repair a PST Folder
- 1). Open the "Start" menu and click "Run".
- 2). Activate the Inbox Repair Tool by typing (or copying and pasting) "drive:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033\scanpst.exe" in the "Open" box.
- 3). Click "OK" and the Inbox Repair Tool window will open. (If the Inbox Repair Tool does not start, your version of Outlook may store the "scanpst.exe" file in a different location. Perform a "Windows Explorer" search for the "scanpst.exe" file. Double-click "scanpst.exe" in the search results to start the Inbox Repair Tool.)
- 4). Enter the path (or use "Browse") and the file name of the .pst file that you want to repair. Typically it is located in "drive:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst."
- 5). Click "Start" and the Inbox Repair Tool will start scanning the file.
- 6). Select the "Make a backup of scanned file before repairing" check box when the file scan is completed.
- 7). Click "Repair". If the repair is successful, you will see a "Repair complete" message. If the repair was unsuccessful, you will need to use a backup of your file.
