With so many options, this camera is an excellent consumer-grade option that is reasonably affordable at around $650.

The flash on the camera is built in and works compatibly with Nikon's secondary lighting systems. The Nikon D7000 is built for performance, allowing for continuous shooting of up to 100 shots. The added performance options do not come without a price. This Nikon SLR is about twice the cost of the D3100 at around $1,200.
- When Canon began releasing its D-series SLRs, professional photographers congregated toward them. The D-series SLRs were built to function interchangeably with Canon's highly regarded lenses. Photographers had more options in the digital realm. The release of the 60D with 18-megapixel capabilities shows Canon SLRs have not slowed down. The video options have been improved and allow for manual exposure adjustment. Though the D-series SLR cameras are high performance, there is a down side. The $1,100 price tag does not include a lens. Lenses must be purchased separately.
- For the home user, the Canon Rebel XS is a great option and priced accordingly. With 10-megapixel detail, the images are still very high quality. The LCD is not quite as large other top SLRs, but 2.5 inches is quite respectable. The Canon Rebel XS does not function as a video camera, but the image quality of the stills is impressive. With a $500 price tag, it is an effective option for the money.
