Turn off the flash on your camera. Taking a picture of a photo using flash will inevitably result in glare and/or washed out colors. Use natural light instead.

    • 2). Position the photograph on a flat surface under natural light. Verify that there is no glare reflecting off of the surface of the photograph. If there is glare, reposition the photo to eliminate the glare. Use a soft brush or canned air to remove any dust from the photograph.

    • 3). Position the camera at the correct distance for proper focus (see camera manual). Align the photograph so it appears straight in the view finder of the camera. Backing up from the photo can aid in preventing focus problems. The digital picture can be cropped later.

    • 4). Depress the shutter button and take the picture without moving the camera. Take you photo in the highest resolution possible. A tripod can help prevent unwanted camera movement. Look at the picture on the camera's LCD display screen and verify proper focus, lighting and results in general.
