How to Troubleshoot a Coby MPC856 MP3 Player
- 1). Slide the battery cover down to remove it from the back of the player, exposing the battery. Remove the battery from the compartment, wait 10 seconds and then reinsert it, making sure the "+" and "-" markings on the battery match the markings in the battery compartment. Slide the cover back on. Resetting the player in this manner often restores functionality when the device fails to power on or buttons don't respond. Resetting the device can also resolve problems with the display. If the device still does not work, go on to the next step.
- 2). Replace the battery with a fresh one. A low battery charge can cause the Coby MP3 player to stop responding. Replacing the battery often restores functionality.
- 3). Toggle the “Hold” button and move it to the “Off” position. Engaging the Hold button prevents buttons from being pressed accidentally while transporting the device. If the Coby player fails to power on or the buttons fail to respond, the Hold button may be to blame.
- 4). Verify that the earphones are securely connected to the player's headphone jack. A loose connection may result in no sound playing through the headphones. Check the volume level as well if you have trouble hearing the audio. Connect new earphones to rule out a problem with the original pair.
- 5). Inspect the USB cable to ensure it connects securely to the Coby MP3 player and the USB port on your computer. A loose connection may prevent your computer from communicating with the player. Plugging the cable in to a different USB port may rule out problems with your computer’s hardware. If the cable is frayed or damaged, replacing it may restore the player's functionality.
- 6). Play a problem file on your computer to rule out the Coby MP3 player as the causative factor. For example, if you experience poor sound quality while listening to a particular song, play it on your computer – if it plays without problems, the problem is with the MP3 player. If you experience the same quality issue when playing the song on the computer, replace the music file by downloading it again.
- 7). Verify that you have free space on the player's memory card. Songs cannot be transferred to the player if the memory card is full. Delete unnecessary files before copying new files to the player.
