Before the advent of MP3 players, CD players were the most popular way to play music. The Sony CDP-CE235 is a good example of a high-quality CD player. With a wealth of functions and easy-to-navigate features, it still proves to be a popular model, as of October 2010. - Like most CD players, the Sony CDP-CE235 comes with standard control functions, such as play, pause and stop. It also has multi-disc selection options enabling you to jump straight from CD 1 to CD 5. Because it is a multi-disc player you can change out the discs that are not being played whilst the player is in operation. This means that, if you are playing CD 5, you can swap out CDs 1 to 4 without having to stop playing CD 5. Other features include the ability to shuffle all 5 CDs into random playing order. This is a great feature if you are having a party and do not want to keep having to change the music.
- The display is a digital LCD display that is packed with all the relevant information. On the display is the disc that is playing, the total running time and the number of tracks. There is also a track calendar that informs you which track is being played. By pressing the "Time" button, you can change the display to show how much time is left on the album or on the individual track. Another use of the "Time" button is to edit the tracks when recording a CD onto tape. By using the countdown display, you can accurately calculate how much time you have left on the tape when recording.
- Locating tracks on the CE235 is made easy with the Automatic Music Sensor or AMS as it is otherwise known. The AMS function allows you skip through discs quickly to find the track you want to listen. If there is a part of the track you would like to listen to in particular, the AMS function allows you to skip to that specific section as well. Another feature of the AMS function is the "Music Scan" button. By pressing this button, the CD player will play 10 seconds from each track allowing you a preview to each specific piece of music. To hear the full length of the track, you simply press "Play" within the 10 seconds allotted. You can also program your own playlist into the CD player using all five discs. Using the "Program" function button, you can organize a playlist made up of 32 steps. These steps can hold one track or one whole disc. Depending on your preference, you may have 32 different songs or even more, if you use some of the steps for one whole disc.
