    • 1). Pour warm soapy water into the propane tank through the valve stem opening. Swish the soapy water around in the tank and drain. Rinse with clean water. Repeat the process a minimum of two times to remove all traces of propane from the tank.

    • 2). Cut the cage from the propane tank with a hacksaw. Grind the cut edge to remove all burrs.

    • 3). Measure and mark a continuous line two inches to four inches up from the base around the circumference of the tank. Drill a hole on the line large enough to get the jigsaw blade through.

    • 4). Insert the jigsaw blade in the hole. Cut along the drawn line to remove the base from the propane tank. Grind the cut edge to remove all burrs.

    • 5). Wire brush the entire tank to remove loose paint and rust. Wipe the surface with a clean towel to remove excess debris. Paint the outside of the tank with spray paint specifically for metal. Allow the paint to dry one hour before continuing.

    • 6). Insert the three-inch eye bolt through the valve stem opening. Slide a washer on the eye bolt. Secure the washer to the eye bolt and propane tank with a nut.

    • 7). Attach a second nut halfway onto the bottom of the 3-inch eye bolt.

    • 8). Thread and secure the end of the 3/8-inch rope through the eye on the two-inch eye bolt. Secure the end of the eye bolt to the nut at the bottom of the three-inch eye bolt. This creates the clanger for the inside of the bell.

    • 9). Insert the opposite end of the rope through the top of an old padlock. Adjust the length of the clanger to hit approximately two inches above the bottom edge of the bell. Tie the rope to secure the clanger in the proper position. Cut the excess rope approximately one inch from the knot with a utility knife.

Attach the two-foot length of medium weight chain to the three-inch eye bolt. Hang the bell from the desired location with the chain.
