How to Wire Two Three-Ways
- 1). Connect a 14/2 cable to the light fixture: black wire to the brass-colored screw, white wire to the silver-colored screw, and ground (bare) wire to the green screw.
- 2). Connect the other end of the 14/2 cable to the first switch: black wire to the bottom screw on the side that has two screws (marked "Common"), ground wire to the green screw. Leave the white wire open for now.
- 3). Connect a 14/3 cable to the same switch: red wire to the top screw on the side of the switch that has two screws, black wire to the screw on the opposite side of the switch, ground wire to the green screw. Connect the white wire from the 14/3 cable to the white wire from the 14/2 cable. Use a wire nut on the connection.
- 4). Run the 14/3 cable from the first switch to the second switch. Connect the black wire to the top screw on the side that has two screws and the red wire to the screw on the opposite side of the switch. Connect the ground wire to the green screw. Leave the white wire open for now.
- 5). Run a 14/2 cable from the distribution panel to the second switch. Connect the black wire to the bottom screw (marked "Common") on the side that has two screws, and the ground wire to the green screw. Connect the white wire to the white wire from the 14/3 cable. Use a wire nut on the connection.
