    • 1). Enter the BIOS setup. As soon as your computer starts up, look for a screen that says something like "press 'X' to enter BIOS setup" where "X" is a key on your keyboard. The key combination needed to enter the BIOS setup and the options within the BIOS itself vary among computers. For more information, refer to your computer vendor or motherboard manufacturer's documentation or visit the online website at hiren.info/pages/bios-boot-cdrom.

    • 2). Set the BIOS to boot from the CD-ROM. In the BIOS setup screen, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to look for the menu that says something like "Boot Order." Select it. You will find a list of bootable devices attached to your computer. Your CD-ROM should be on this list. The CD-ROM needs to be the first item on the list to ensure that you can boot from it. Once you have moved the CD-ROM to the top of the list, save and exit the BIOS setup, usually by hitting F10 or ESC.

    • 3). Insert the Windows XP CD into the CD-ROM and restart the computer. A "Press any key to boot from CD..." message will appear. Press a key. You have successfully booted the Windows XP disc.
